Getting your Results

Find out how we deliver results and what simple steps you need to take if you test positive for chlamydia or gonorrhoea.

Getting your Results

How do I get my results?

  • You can choose how to get your result. We can write to you (by post), phone you or text you; it's up to you.
  • All contact will be confidential.

How long does it take to get my result?

It takes up to 5 days to process your results. If you live in Croydon, Hillingdon, Lambeth, Southwark, Kingston, Sutton, Merton, Croydon, Wandsworth or Lewisham, however, it could take up to two weeks.

Unfortunately, we don't yet offer a 'same-day' service. Your sample is sent to our labs and we will contact you as soon as the result is known using the method you have chosen.

What happens if the chlamydia test is positive?

The good news is that chlamydia is easy to treat. If you have chlamydia, you'll be given antibiotics to clear it. It's important to remember that while chlamydia is easily treated, this needs to be done as early as possible to prevent future complications (in Greenwich this also applies to gonorrhoea).

We will talk to you about the people you've recently had sex with. See the section below. It's important not to have sex again until you and your current partner(s) have finished the antibiotics. Remember; antibiotics can stop the contraceptive pill or patch from working.

To avoid getting chlamydia again, it's important to use a condom and ask your partner to get tested.

We'll organise for you and your partner to have treatment at a convenient location.

If the test comes back positive it means you have chlamydia. We will contact you with your result and you will then need treatment. It's important not to have sex while you are taking your treatment, even with a condom. The clinic staff will advise you when it's safe to have sex again. It's important to take all the tablets you are given.

You might need to be tested for other sexually transmitted infections. We will discuss this with you.

We use extremely reliable tests but they are not 100% guaranteed.
